3D – The Next Wave of the future

We have just finished producing a short video (less than 7 minutes) on 3D printing; what it is, what it’s used for and the fact3D Print that we have one at our local college that industry can access (View it here). I touched on this subject once before in my December 11th blog post ‘How much is Digital Technology changing the way we live? I continue to be amazed by this stuff and according to a recent article I found on Entrepreneur.com this could just be the beginning. Apparently Skype is working on 3D Video calling. That would be like having a digital body sit in on your meetings for you while you sit at your computer at a different location anywhere in the world.
While this technology may be a few years away and right now it looks like its straight out of Hollywood, director David Cameron, who made the 3-D hit Avatar, says a takeover of 3-D displays is inevitable because “that’s how we see the world.”
I believe how we learn from the world is changing too. We are really becoming a ‘learn on demand’ society. With You Tube as we need to know something we look it up and learn the how often so we can do it right then. With that in mind we are producing a couple of other 7 minute video’s to help you learn about digital technology. When they are completed I will let you know.

Digital Technology with Your Customers in Mind

SEO Perfect CompanyOne of the presenters at the Digital Forum we did in March presented on SEO (search engine optimization). As we heard optimizing your website can be a daunting task especially since the algorithms the search engines use change on a real regular basis. I came across this article ‘How to do an SEO Audit of Your Website’ this morning that may help with that. This article looks at the common sense stuff like checking for broken links or dead pages or making sure your website loads reasonably fast. I really believe that no matter how the search engines are designed you can’t lose by just being authentic and designing your website with your customers experience in mind.

Have you thought of doing You Tube videos for your business?  I have You Tube videos that I put up 4 years ago that I am still getting views, over 198,000 to date and people are still subscribing to them. Videos are an excellent way to engage customers and help them with your products. Looking to figure out how to get started with that? You might want to check out this article ‘10 Questions to Ask When Creating Your Company’s You Tube Channel’. For those of you who might think putting up commercials for your company would be a natural first step – it probably isn’t the best thing to do. People look to You Tube videos to be entertained, educated or informed not to watch commercials. How would you use You Tube to entertain, educate or inform your customers? After you figure that out You Tube can help you with analytics. For example I find it very interesting that my videos’ are viewed mostly by men (89%).

Digital Technology, the Proof is in.

Yet another expert has got on board with the importance of digital technology. zoom400Dr Sinclair Stockman, executive director of Digital Northern Ireland 2020, suggests in this article that digital technology is already of fundamental importance and it will have an even bigger impact in the future.  He goes on to say that many businesses do not fully understand how digital technology can make a positive difference.  I couldn’t agree more and to help with that I recently made a video to help businesses make that connection. The video is on You Tube as well as on our website. Feel free to view or use as you see fit.

So if it is fundamentally important how do we approach it? Courtney Hunt of Social Media Today makes a good point when she suggests we need to ‘stop thinking about technology education and training as an (unnecessary) expense’ and that  ‘a LIY (Learn It Yourself) approach to developing digital competencies is an effective strategy (if it ever was)’.   Maybe it is time to check out the resources in your area for some digital technology training or if you are in the Peace Region perhaps I can help with that.
